Sweet November

"I wouldn't even make my dog eat this crap!" she shrieked in her horribly high-pitched voice. Jessy Brandt wasn't exactly known for her kindness; in fact, if she didn't like someone’s article, she would throw it in the nearest trash can, but not before tearing it up and stomping on it. She was like Miranda Presley, except at least that woman had style and some sense. Jessy had everything except the ability to speak to her employees normally.

"The topic didn't offer much room for development, but I'll rewrite it for Monday, no problem," I said, hoping to calm the dragon down.

"For Monday? Well, good luck with that because it sucks as it is. It's shocking that you call yourselves journalists, just because you went to some media school or what," she said, her mouth adorned with deep wrinkles. She must have been around 35 but looked closer to 40. Being a witch doesn't look good on anyone.

And I admit, that article really didn't turn out well. The sex column was never my favorite, probably because I didn't have much experience with it back then. If only I had known what men wanted, I wouldn't have been alone. And this whole thing ruined my mood so much that Brigitte had to be my savior again.

We went to our usual gay bar, but the evening took a slightly different turn than before. As we descended those long steep stairs, and I was starting to be glad that I didn't stumble my way through them, I found myself face to face with a pair of very pleasant eyes. He was cute and smiled at me several times. Short blond hair, green eyes, totally my type.

"Hey, I think you should make a move, maybe you'll bump into each other!" Brigitte shouted from the dance floor, but I didn't hear anything.

"What???" I asked back, but then she grabbed me and turned me around on the spot. Suddenly, he stood in front of me. He invited me for a drink at a hidden corner, so we could have a more peaceful conversation.

"You're really cute," he said, smiling. "What's your name?"

I leaned closer to make sure he could hear me.

"Gabriel, and you?"

"Peter, but just call me Pete. Do you have a nickname?" he asked, showing some interest in his voice.

"Ah, let's stick with Gabriel. Only a few relatives and friends call me Gabe. But I don't really like it."

“Maybe soon we'll be in a relationship where you'll love it," he winked and kissed my cheek.

In my embarrassment, I almost spilled my mojito. Then we went to find Brigitte, but I couldn't find her anywhere. She sent a text saying she went home to not disturb us. I felt bad about it. It was as if I had cheated or something. In any case, it wasn't nice of me. But since it happened that way, we danced until dawn, and I asked if he would come home with me. After all, I was gathering material for my article, I had to be more professional in this sex thing.
